The psoriasis healing journey can be long, challenging and confusing many times. We must persevere and continue on into the unknown.
If you feel overwhelmed or don’t know where to start or continue, then strive to simplify things. I like to focus on the FOUR elements and the FOUR pillars, perhaps they will help you:
FOUR ELEMENTS:
Air
Take in deep breathes through the nose, hold, then exhale fully through the mouth. Build a habit of breathing this way; 4-second inhale through nose -> 2-second hold -> 8-10 second exhale through the mouth. Repeat and feel your body fall into a more calm, peaceful state, that allows stress to travel through and out.
Stress must be channeled, integrated and released. Your breathe connects the mind and body directly, it’s the fastest way to reduce stress. It is your most important tool and it’s always available to you.
Water
Before any food, diet, lifestyle skills, comes the skill of Water Drinking. Pure water, start your morning with a glass of water, squirt in a little lemon or lime. Drink that down, then wait at least 15 minutes before you eat any food or drink anything else. Do this again before bed, at least a half hour after you eat dinner.
Strive to drink at least half of your body weight in fluid ounces of water every 24 hours. Get a reusable water bottle. This is your Warrior Weapon. Keep it full, and keep sipping on it all day. Water keeps the vehicle moving and it’s the only way out for the toxins causing psoriasis. Get a raging river flowing through you. More pure water and less processed drinks. This has and always will be the most important dietary skill I do and suggest.
Earth
Put your bare feet on the ground, in the sand, in the water, ocean, lake, river, sit your butt in the grass, climb a tree, hike a trail, pet your dirty dog, take a walk in the woods, in nature. Find a park nearby and make that your Earthing time, your walking time, your breathing time, your water-drinking time.
Eat foods that grow directly from the Earth, avoid the man-made chemicals as much as possible. Reduce your consumption of the processed foods that have artificial chemicals that hurt the body. Eat whole foods, fruits, vegetables, wild foods, herbs. Munch, munch, munch, be a grazer of healthy foods. Here is a link to my top priority foods for you to add to your diet to start your grocery list.
Fire
Get sensible exposure to the morning and evening sun whenever and however possible. Even if it’s mildly cloudy outside, the sun is still reaching your skin, when you take your private walks in nature, expose as much of your skin surface to the sun as possible.
Cook your foods with cold-pressed coconut, olive or avocado oils. Avoid canola oil at all costs. Steam more, sauté less, more baking, less grilling. Cook your healing foods al-dente and store them in the fridge to snack on.
Build the fire and desire in your Warrior Spirit to endure and carry on with persistence and determination.
The Fifth Element – LOVE.
Strive to show yourself more compassion and less judgement. Be honest with yourself and do not assume anything of the world or others, which causes you unnecessary stress.
Build love towards the affliction, the psoriasis, and most importantly toward Self. We have been programmed to hate our bodies and blame our immune systems and none of this is true. Truth is Love. The more love you express, the more you will heal from psoriasis and the results will come faster because you free your mind, and release from the shackles of this horrid skin condition.
Then you will see the skin heal, the symptoms fade away and you will commit to your practice, with less guilt, less anxiety, and less fear.
FOUR PILLARS:
Diet
This is the practical transition of eating more foods that heal you, and less foods that harm you. I believe in ADDITION then SUBTRACTION. You will heal from psoriasis as you ADD more healing foods, water in first, then as you have built strength and resolve focus on eliminating and avoiding the processed foods that feed the pathogens that cause psoriasis.
It’s You vs. the Invaders, it’s a battle for resources. Each food on my list is in priority and has nutrients that eliminate the causes of psoriasis while also building you up to a level of vitality you’ve never reached before. You are dawning into becoming a strong, well and resilient Warrior.
Sleep
Sleep is challenging for many. You have to prepare yourself for good sleep. We Warriors need 7, 8, 9 hours of sleep. Sleep is when the magic healing happens, when the mind turns off and the body, organs, Liver can rest, then regenerate before we demand things of our body the next day.
Build a practice around improving sleep, turn the lights low after dark, no blue lights, put on night light mode, no screens and phones in dark rooms, do not go to bed with your devices. Turn them all on airplane mode before bed. Always have background light on if screens are on. Reduce TV time, read a book instead or write in your journal about your Mission and Purpose.
Put on soothing energy music, light incense, prepare a bath and soak in salts, lavender and coconut oil. Get a yoga mat and lay flat on your back as you do the breathing technique I listed above. Bring yourself into peaceful, sleepful state and sleep like a baby.
Movement
Walks in nature, exercise, aerobic breathing exercises, yoga, swimming, jogging, stretching of any kind. Do some sort of movement everyday, preferably in sunshine, get a little sweat going. Stretch the skin, even if it hurts, as the body must be used to heal.
We must use our body, move our body because that is how our Lymphatic System is pumped to eliminate waste products and toxins. The cardiovascular system has the Heart to pump blood through it. The lymph requires US to be the pump to move wastes out of the kidneys for filtration into the urine.
We have been built over Millions of years to Move, so get moving. Even if it’s one stretch, one minute, one movement, DO IT. Something is always greater than Nothing.
Community
You have PHW!! You have found your community. Continue to honor your community, give back, follow the guidelines, read the rules, keep the conversations compassionate and reinforcing. You have your practice, others have their own, respect each Warrior’s journey. Listen more than Direct, stay in the middle with Guidance.
The stronger you make the Community, the stronger you become. The biggest realization I had 11 years ago when I shared my first post and video, the more I help others heal, the more I help myself. We are social creatures and you know how you feel when you save someone else’s life, give each person space to live and create more space in your own mind and life.
